The management of Adom FM have presented a cheque for 6,500 Euros to the family of Kelvin Mensah, a two-year old hole-in-heart patient for his second surgery.
The cheque was handed over to his mother Mrs Rosemond Ankrah Mensah by the Human Resource Manager of Adom FM, George Imbeah at a short ceremony on Tuesday, June 28, at the station’s premises.
Kelvin was diagnosed with a hole-in-heart by doctors at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and required surgery which would cost 7,500 Euros.
His father Daniel Mensah, who was at his wits’ end made an appeal to Adom FM and as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the business unit took it up and launched a massive on-air fund raising campaign in late February 2011.
The response was massive. Corporate bodies and private individuals in Ghana and across the world responded with various donations and within two months, the campaign had exceeded its target.
Kelvin has undergone his first surgery and is set to undergo the second one very soon.
Mrs Mensah, who was quite emotional and even shed tears expressed her family’s gratitude to the management and staff of Adom FM for the immense support.
With this successful fund-raising campaign, the management of Adom FM is launching a permanent Save A Child's Heart (SACH) fund, aimed at giving financial support to children who may require similar life-saving cardiac surgery.
Interestingly, Kelvin Mensah was the first person to donate to the fund, even before its official launch. Kelvin has gladly donated the excess amount raised for his operation to the Adom FM Save A Child’s Heart fund.
Individuals, philanthropists and corporate organizations are being entreated to support the fund.
Records at the National Cardiothoracic Centre indicate that about 150 children between the ages of 11 months and 17 years need urgent financial assistance to undergo surgery in spite of the 50 percent rebate provided by the Ghana Heart Foundation to all patients.
