The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo has declared that the choice of Sunyani as the venue for the presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) signifies victory for the party in the 2012 elections. Mr. Nyamekye Marfo said Sunyani is the same venue at which former Presidents Rawlings and Kufour were selected as candidates for their respective parties and they won their respective elections and the same thing will happen for President Mills if he wins the presidential primaries this weekend. He was speaking on Dwaso Nsem, Adom FM’s morning show, which was broadcast from Sunyani on Wednesday. He stated that all is set for the NDC congress and enumerated the preparations they had made including the provision of maximum security for aspirants and delegates alike to ensure that no casualties will be recorded in the event of any violence. Mr. Nyamekye Marfo noted that the regional party executives have earmarked a venue for Outside Broadcast Vans and about 1,400 observers. In a related development, Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) has accused the Brong Ahafo Regional executives of hijacking the Congress and sidelining them. According to a member of the group Chris Ducan who also spoke on Dwaso Nsem the executives have not even met them to discuss how the Congress should go and what can be done to hold a successful Congress. He noted that prior to the Congress, members of FONKAR had been intimidated severally but they had resisted any attempts to suppress them. He also alleged that there had been several attempts to thwart Nana Konadu’s campaigns but they were not perturbed about it. However, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo denied FONKAR’s claims of being sidelined. Story: Akuamoah Boateng/Adom FM/Ghana
