The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has cautioned police personnel to always operate within the confines of the law and respect the rights of suspects. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Prosper Kwame Agblor, explained that as law enforcers, they should live above reproach in the performance of their duties and refrain from actions and inactions that tend to cast a slur on the image of the service.” DCOP Agblor gave the advice in Accra, on Tuesday at a training course for 65 police detectives from the Tema and Accra regions. The course, aimed at building the operational capacities of detectives in preventing, detecting and investigating the increasing sophisticated crimes in society. Mr. Agblor urged the detectives to be of good conduct, adhere to professional standards and credible performance. He said these virtues would make the public appreciate their work and accord them respect and co-operation. DCOP Agblor urged the experienced participants to adopt modern technology to gather intelligence, analyse and interpret crime data. “Be well versed in issues of fundamental human rights and also have a sense of curiosity and questioning mind,” he said. He commended the Intercontinental Bank, Vanguard Assurance and Produce Buying Company for supporting the programme. An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kofi Boakye, who is the Director of Training, said training is the cornerstone of every successful organisation. He, therefore, urged the service to strategically position itself in the ever improving technological environment to successfully fight crime which has become very sophisticated. ACP Boakye said the CID had always been an important component of the Police Service in fighting crime it, therefore, needs the required logistics to enhance their work. In her welcome address, Chief Superintendent Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Director in-charge of Training at the CID headquarters, explained that crime investigation required special knowledge and skills, therefore, the need for constant training.
