Some trotro drivers have called on government to offer alternative means of transport for its workers to cut down the reliance on private cars by commuters and reduce congestion on the roads.
The drivers want government to take the responsibility of transporting its workers in order to reduce traffic which they said contributes to the loss of valuable time.
Trotro drivers who ply the Kaneshie-Kasoa road said in an interview with GNA that they have had to increase the standard trotro fares because of traffic or resort to the “short short” method where they run short distances instead of the normal distances to make more earnings.
A Trotro driver, John Atta Joseph, said he and his colleagues spend over 45 minutes in traffic to make a journey of 15 minutes from Barrier Junction to Kaneishie , a situation he said was worse during rush hours.
In his view, private cars no longer serve as a quick means of transport for workers since they contribute immensely to the terrible traffic and urged the government to find alternative means of transport for its workers to cut down the number of vehicles plying the roads and hence to reduce traffic.
