Legendary Abedi Pele has dismissed claims that there is a bone of contention between himself and former Frankfurt forward Tony Yeboah.
According to the ex-Black Stars captain, he was on good terms with the former joint Bundesliga top scorer.
Contrary to public perception that the friction between the two was the reason for Ghana's failure to annex its fifth Nation’s Cup silverware, Pele said on Metro TV's Good Evening Ghana that “I don't have a problem with Yeboah, we are good friends".
“We called each other frequently during our playing days, so we were both surprised about the stories we heard and read in the news," Pele stated. .
The FA Cup wining coach revealed that the healthy relationship that existed between their respective better halves - Maha and Tarsha - could not have made them 'enemies' as was widely publicized back in the days.
"Maha and Yeboah's wife are mates, so we are not enemies as people think," he added.
Pele however stated that if there was a competition be¬tween the two, it was for the good of the game and country, saying, "We were both striving for excellence. Yes, there was competition between us but we did it for the good of the country."
Abedi, after an illustrious soccer career close to two decades, now bankrolls reining FA Cup champions Nania FC.
Yeboah is also the chair¬man of Division One side Yegoala FC and plays golf.
