A policeman, who allegedly attempted to have anal sex with a 17-year-old boy, has been arrested and is being detained for questioning by the Kotobabi police in Accra.
The suspect, Lance Corporal Isaac Donkoh, who lives at the Kotobabi Police Station barracks, is married with two children.
A source at the Kotobabi Police told the Ghanaian Times newspaper that at about 8:00.p.m on August 26, the victim and his l0-year-old brother (both believed to be street children) retired to bed in an abandoned building, which was a former police barracks at Kokomlemle in Accra.
According to the source, the boy told the police that at about 1:30.a.m. he heard a knock on the door and on opening it halfway, Donkor forced his way in saying he was a policeman.
The source said Donkor went and slept on the bed. Because he identified himself as a policeman, they could not sack him. Later, the boys went to lie down close by. As they slept, Donkor grabbed the boy, covered his mouth and attempted to undress him, which resulted to a struggle between them.
The source said during the struggle, the boy’s brother woke up and rushed out of the room calling for help. He met a drinking bar attendant, Yaw Mensah, on the street who asked him why he was screaming and while he was narrating the incident his brother joined them.
The source said Mensah took the two boys to the Kotobabi Police Station to lodge a complaint.
They later identified Donkoh, who was arrested.
The source said Donkor, denied the offence and claimed he went to advise the boys to secure the doors, but they started screaming. He denied entering the room.
