Three persons have been arrested for allegedly carrying out robbery operations at Axim and Prestea two weeks ago.
They are Tambula Abdulai, 33, Kwaswo Kipra, 25, and Mumuni Ayanga, 30. They were said to have robbed some Chinese at Axim of their cash and valuables.
They were also alleged to have attacked some residents at Kutukrom and robbed them of their property.
They are currently in police custody at Sekondi pending further investigations.
Giving details of the case to the Times on Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Chief Inspector Olivia Adiku, said on Tuesday, August 20, two Chinese reported to the police that four gunmen attacked and robbed them of GH¢ 15.000, 3,000 dollars and 5,000 Chinese yen, one mobile phone, and a Chinese passport.
She said earlier on Saturday, August 20, the gang again attacked Eric Sonful at Kutukrom near Dwira Bibiani in Prestea with a pistol and robbed him of GH¢4,200, a piece of gold and three Nokia mobile phones.
Based on this information, Chief Inspector Adiku said the elders of Kutukrom organised a search for suspicious characters in the area and on August 25, succeeded in arresting the three men and handed them to the police at Prestea.
Chief Inspector Adiku said that later Eric Sondul identified Tambulam Kipra and Mumuni as those who attacked and robbed him.
The Chinese, Chin Jianbo and Mea Musan Yanyi, however, could not identify them, she said.
The police PRO commended the people of Kutukrom for their vigilance and boldness in arresting the suspects saying that “the criminals are living in the communities and we should be alert on any suspicious movement and persons”.
The police, she said, would always rely on the public information in the combat of crime in the region.
