Fast growing entertainment and media group, Zylofon Media has signed dancehall artiste Stonebwoy to its record label.
The Ashiaman-based artiste now joins highlife musician Kumi Guitar and singer Becca, who were earlier signed by the media and entertainment outfit.
Both parties failed to give full details of the agreement but speaking at the unveiling ceremony Thursday night at the Zylofon Media headquarters in East Legon, Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of Zylofon Media said the move will further enhance the growth of the dancehall artiste.
Explaining why they decided to sign the ‘Baafira’ hit singer, the Zylofon Media CEO said, Stonebwoy, “has great and unmatched music prowess. He is suitable for every platform in the world so whatever platform you put him on, he will deliver … that weighed into the decision making. He’s got talent, he’s got skill and then above all he’s got music intellect and integrity.”
He acknowledged the dancehall artiste’s contribution to Ghanaian music and noted that he admires his business acumen. “He understands music” and they are more than happy to align themselves with him as a business.
Born Livingstone Etse Satekla, Stonebwoy expressed gratitude to Zylofon Media for signing and said the industry needs more of such support for Ghanaians artistes.
He noted that, he has been an independent artiste who started doing music commercially at age 19 and “I stand to get corrected if this happens quite often as compared to other countries, most especially in Nigeria with whom we are in very high competition when it comes to entertainment, music and arts from Africa on the global market.”
Stonebwoy stressed that “it is very difficult to even have that form of support that can drive the arts, sustain the arts, create more job opportunities, respect the arts [and] make the arts stand up to a certain level where generations can be able to point at and say this is from Africa or this is from Ghana.”
Such collaborations, he noted, must be acknowledged and supported.
Zylofon Media will handle management, productions and promotions for Stonebwoy.
