Kwame Sakyi, 26, also known as Prophet Elisha, who is the Head of the Word of Jesus Christ Church in Koforidua, was on Friday arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command at Bunso for posing as a policeman.
He was on board a Land Rover vehicle from Accra to Kumasi in Police uniform which was reported to be for his friend who is a policeman based in Accra.
Briefing the media in Koforidua, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwabena Gyamera-Yeboah, the Eastern Regional Police Commander, said the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) command at Bunso saw Sakyi wearing the police uniform on board the vehicle.
He said the MTTU upon seeing Sakyi, suspected he was not a genuine Policeman and so interrogated him.
“After the interrogations, it confirmed their suspicion that this man is not a genuine policeman and so arrested him and brought him here,” he said.
ASP Gyamera-Yeboah narrated that Sakyi took his Police man’s friend uniform, who had by then reported to duty, and went to stand at Ofankor where he had free car ride to Kumasi.
“His friend the Policeman is not even aware that his uniform had been taken away,” he added.
ASP Gyamera-Yeboah said Sakyi would be put in Police custody until Monday when he would be arraigned before court for prosecution.
He advised the public to take advantage of the on-going enlistment into the Police service if they interested in the job and desist from posing as Police men in town.
“We will not spare any non-police personnel wearing a police uniform when caught,” he warned.
