Police in the Volta Region have mounted a search for armed men suspected to be Fulani who attacked 18 people on board a bus travelling from Mafi to Ho last night.
The assailants assaulted the driver and some of the passengers, who were mostly market women.
But they absconded just before a police patrol team arrived at the scene of the incident, Emmanuel Golo, the driver of the vehicle said.
The victims were taken to the Ho Central police station where police there took their statements.
Deputy Volta Regional Crime Officer ASP Seth Dukpe who was in charge of the night patrol team when the incident happened tells Joy News police will not abandon the search for the armed robbers.
ASP Dukpe said the passengers were attacked “on a narrow bridge between Ho and Adaklu, and passengers confirmed the attackers “carried weapons.”
But the last incident follows a series of attacks by Fulani herdsmen around the country.
Barely a week ago residents of Agogo, suffer constant attacks on them by Fulani herdsmen threatened to take the law into their own hands of the police is not able to deal with the matter.
In July this year, police in northern Ghana shot dead a Fulani herdsman who engaged them in a gun battle on the Tumu-Sissala road.
Meanwhile Security Analyst at the Kofi Annan Peace Keeping Training Centre, Dr Kwesi Aning says it will be wrong to conclude that the attackers were Fulanis when their true identities have not been verified.
“I think that is an analytical weakness,” he said.
He however stresses “we should be worried about our inability to fulfill our promises to ECOWAS under the protocol on transhumant and livestock.”
