If you thought that the popular azonto which is currently the sensation in town when it comes to music and dance is meant for only hiplife music, you must think again because its gospel version is coming to a club near you. This is the initiative of Tema-based hiplife musician William Kojo Johnson popularly known as Stay Jay who is currently making waves with the hiplife version of azonto with tunes Sue, Sha She Wowo and Yenko Nkoaa. The artiste told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that, he is currently putting finishing touches to the song, Psalm 23 which he said was his way of thanking God for His numerous blessings and also getting the gospel out there – to every nook and cranny – including night clubs. Asked why a rapper and a hiplife musician like himself will venture into gospel music considering the success he is currently chalking up with his hiplife songs, Stay Jay explained “I always get inspiration from God and whatever He inspires me to do is what I'll do for Him. I always send His messages across the world and I don’t only rap, I sing as well and am versatile as you know music is dynamic.” “God has done a lot for me and I appreciate all He is still doing in my life so I will sing to praise and honour Him,” he noted. Explaining the rationale for the title, Psalm 23, he said it “has a lot of powerful vibes and it talks about strength, being strong in the Lord, and being fearful, also it directs and gives hope.” Psalm 23 features renowned music producer and singer, Nacy, who will not only sing but also produce the song. This will however, not be the only gospel music Stay Jay will be releasing as he has promised to, “continue to give praise and honour to the Almighty God.” Stay Jay, who is currently in London ahead of his performance at the Hiplife and Afrobeat Festival scheduled for September 30 in London, said he will release the song early next month.
