Water shortage continues to hit parts of the nation’s capital making residents in the Greater Accra struggle in search for water day in and day out. Residents in Tema and parts of Accra have not had water for some days, with places like Ashongman Estates, Ashaley Botwe and parts of Coastal Estates on the Spintex road have not had water for the past four years. It is against this background that the ranking member on the Committee for Water, Works and Housing in Parliament, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has tasked the Ghana Water Company Limited to live up to expectation by ensuring a vital commodity like water is made available to all. Cecilia Dapaah said it is unacceptable at this time and age, that common commodity like water will be scarce to access. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday, Madam Abena Dapaah claimed that some manufacturing companies in the Tema Metropolis, which depend on water as a primary resource for production, have asked some of their workers to go home due to unavailability of water. Cecilia Dapaah who is also the MP for Bantama in the Ashanti region claimed the NPP government, when in office, started with expansion projects at the Weija treatment plant and other works at Kwanyarko in the Central region and before leaving office. Meanwhile Managing Director for the Ghana Water Company Limited, Kweku Botwe said the company is working around the clock to fix the water shortage. Mr. Kweku Botwe advised estate developers to consult the water company when starting construction so that the company can lay pipelines at the right places to ensure frequent flow of water.
