The Agogo Residents Association says it will not allow funerals in the area until their chiefs drive away Fulani herdsmen from their land. Spokesperson for the residents Kingsley Obeng, says this has become necessary because the authorities have failed to act on their demands for the ejection of the Fulani herdsmen. The residents few weeks ago hit the streets in protest over what they said were inhumane treatment being meted out to them by the nomads. According to them, some of the indigenes have been murdered, maimed with the women raped by the Fulanis, and have therfore called on the chiefs to take urgent steps to get rid of them in the community. But the residents accuse the chief of feet dragging and have therefore imposed a funeral ban in the community. Kingsley Obeng told Luv FM’s Kwabena Ampratwum “until Nana and his elders obtain the ejection order from court that the government has to drive away the Fulani Herdsmen from Agogo and surrounding areas, we are not going to allow any sub-chiefs or Nana and his elders to perform any funeral in the town.” He admitted that their action is unlawful but said if they don’t take the law into the hands government will not take them serious. He observed that funerals are cherished more than festivals in the town, adding the ban on funerals will send clear signals of their displeasure over the Fulani menace.
