Prophet Kwame Sekyi of the Word of Jesus Christ Church at Adweso, near Koforidua who was arrested for posing as a policeman, has been sentenced to a year's imprisonment with hard labour by a Koforidua magistrate's court.
In passing sentence, Mrs. Priscilla Sophia Yeboah, the presiding judge, said she wished to expose his falsehood “because God will never disgrace His prophet to the extent that He would put him in such a situation”.
She said she was being considerate because he was not that popular, and, therefore, sentenced him to a year's jail term.
“Because he preaches the gospel, he should serve his term by preaching the gospel to the other inmates so that they would also be led to Christ,” she said.
Prophet Sekyi had pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonation and begged for leniency.
Also known as prophet Elisha, he explained that he was invited to pray for someone who was sick in Kumasi, and “because I did not have money, I put on the uniform to persuade a driver to give me a lift”.
Prosecuting, Inspector Patrick Sackitey, told the court that prophet Elisha was arrested on September 23, at about 10:30.a.m at Bunsu junction for impersonation.
He said the prophet, who was dressed in police uniform claimed that he had no money and so decided to put on the uniform of a policeman he was living with, in order to get a ride to Kumasi.
