The Eastern Regional Police has destroyed seven large plots of Indian hemp farms at Ehiamankyene, in the Fanteakwa District. The heaps of the Indian hemp, popularly known as wee, were burnt to ashes. The farms are located in the deep forest. The wee crops have been laced with other crops such as cassava, plantain and pepper. Briefing the media, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, the Public Affairs Officer of the Regional Police Service, said the land had been earmarked for a forest zone, but residents had turned it into Indian hemp farms. He said the Regional Commander, ACP Kwabena Gyamera-Yeboah, had a tip-off on the cultivation of the wee farms. He said so far three suspects had been arrested. The Police are currently looking for the owner of the farm who is alleged to have been on the run. “The Police would like to appeal to the public to endeavour to enter into genuine farming and not unapproved, illegal farming. “We will bring all those involved to book in order to deter others from venturing into such activities,” Chief Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said.
