President John Mills has cut the sod for the construction of the Ada Sea defence wall.
The wall is to protect the residents in the area whose houses face imminent collapse from tidal waves.
The president, at the sod cutting ceremony said the people are deserving of a wall.
“We are not doing it because the people of Ada voted for us. We are doing it because you deserve it. The national cake should be so shared that those who are deprived get a bigger size than those who are already provided for," he stressed.
He charged the contractors to work with all diligence, knowing “the people of Ada need this. They need the protection because they have been devastated by the fury of the waves. This is the time we have to come to their aid”.
School children were said to have lined up the streets to welcome the president who was embarking on a tour of the Greater Accra Region.
Joy News presidential correspondent reported the 14 kilometer stretch wall will take two years to be completed.
According to him the cost of construction is estimated at €60million.
Scores of people have had their homes ravaged by rampaging waves in recent past.
