Ghana Shippers Authority said inefficient implementation of road governance measures reducing competitiveness of Ghanaian shippers.

Speaking under the theme, "opportunities and challenges of unlocking the Ecowas market", Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Authority, Benonita Bismark, revealed that the bottlenecks along Ghana's trade routes continue to badly affect trade ties between Ghana and other West African economies.

"A drastic rise of about 40 police and customs check points with a minimum delay of twenty minutes coupled with illegal payments of at least GH₵400 per trip is a major concern," she said.

The Ghana Shippers Authority in collaboration with Borderless Alliance deliberated on the best possible ways to counter bottlenecks to free trade along Ghana's trade corridors by close of this year.

Some stakeholders including the Borderless Alliance fear the composite index of the cost of doing business in Ghana is bound to decline should government through the council fail to address issues related to trade barriers.

The vice president, Dr. Mahamamudu Bawumia earlier announced the removal of all customs barriers along the transit corridor effective in August.
