There appears to be manifest contradiction on how national security is dealing with the controversial Fulani issue.
A 14 day ultimatum has been issued by national security for the nomads to vacate Agogo in the Ashanti Region where they have been accused of rape, murder and any other inhuman treatment.
National Security Coordinator Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey confirmed to Joy News’ Sammy Darko that a special team is heading to Agogo to execute the forced exit of the nomads and their cattle.
An earlier team had been dispatched to monitor the activities of the herdsmen, he revealed.
But the National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah told Myjoyonline.com, he “cannot confirm” any such ultimatum.
He does not believe sacking the nomads from Agogo is the right way to go. Unless you kill all their cattle, you cannot tell them to leave, he stated.
“Where do you want them to go?” he exclaimed when Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh asked him if national security was going to execute its plan to show the Fulanis the exit door to Agogo.
Brig. Nunoo Mensah said the right thing to do is for a law to be enacted which will restrict the movement of the cattle instead of forcing the nomads to leave.
He said land is becoming scarce for cattle to be allowed free range to graze on people's farms.
The Fulani herdsmen have been in running battles with the residents with the latter demanding that the Fulanis be made to vacate the Agogo land.
Joy News made attempts to reach King Faisal's financier, one of the herdsmen, Alhaji Karim Grunsah to solicit his opinion on the ultimatum but he declined comment except to say he is tired and prepared to leave with his cattle.
Meanwhile, reports from Agogo say two farmers have been shot by an unidentified gunman. One was reportedly shot in the chest, and the other, on the buttocks.
An eyewitness told Luv News’ Kwabena Ampratwum that he carried the victims in his vehicle from the village of Abrewapong where they were shot to the Agogo Hospital.
