The Ga West municipal assembly says it would soon pull down structures cited on water ways in the area.
This comes as hundreds of homes around Weija and its environs are flooded following the spillage of excess water from the Weija dam.
While some residents have relocated to higher grounds, others have declined warnings to move.
But Metropolitan Chief Executive for Ga South Sheriff Dodoo tells Joy News the assembly will soon pull down all authorized structures in the area.
“Some are being recalcitrant but others have realized the need for them to move because this time around some of them were inviting me to come and help them demolish those structures on the water way which is a healthy sign; because all along they were calling me Mr Demolition,” he said.
Mr Duodu lamented the many legal actions some residents have been taking against the assembly over such demolitions.
“They most of the time take us to court; once we are taken to court we are crippled because we all believe in the rule of law,” he said.
The Ghana Water Company, managers of the Weija Dam, periodically opens the huge spillways of the dam to release excess water.
This is necessary to ensure that the dam does not break. But there is massive development the large swath of land around the route on which the water passes to into the sea.
