What started as a mere accusation against the Okyehene for supporting illegal mining in Kyebi in the Eastern region almost led to bloodshed on Tuesday.
Last week members of the Asona royal family led by Odehye Nana Adjei Boateng accused the Okyehene of secretly sponsoring the illegal mining activities he is known to have waged a crusade against. But he was challenged by the traditional council to prove his allegation.
This morning Nana Adjei Boateng planned a visit to the palace to dare the Okyehene to swear before the deity in the full glare of the public. But his group reportedly clashed with the Okyehene’s supporters who stopped the planned ceremony.
There were firing of gun shots with several people getting injured in the melee as people run helter-skelter for their lives, Evans Appiah who works with Adom FM recounted.
He said Adjei Boateng’s group were attacked and physically prevented from entering the palace by guards manning the Okyenhene’s palace.
Spokesperson for the aggrieved royals, Nana Yiadom, told Joy News they are protecting the reputation of the Akim Abuakwa stool.
