JA Plant Pool Ghana Limited leaders in the sale, rental and leasing of earth moving equipment, heavy duty trucks and machinery and Yutong buses in the country will embark on a massive road safety campaign next week.
This is in line with the company’s core theme of not only selling equipments and buses but also ensuring the safety of its clients and Ghanaians in general especially, during christmas season.
The company which has sold about 1000 of its Yutong buses locally and internationally will kick start the road safety shows on Joy 99.7 FM – during the Super Morning Show and Drive Time – Monday.
The Managing Director of JA Plant Pool Ghana Limited, Lolu Akindele told Myjoyonline.com in an interview Wednesday that, aside the on-air campaigns, the company will also embark on other vigorous campaigns at selected boarding stations – including the Neoplan station at Circle, Accra, stations in Kumasi and Tarkoradi – to educate drivers on key road safety issues.
He said the company will have its personnel at these stations to educate drivers on the need to adhere to key road safety regulations especially checking their engines and tyres regularly; not to drink and drive; wear seat belts and also not to overspeed, stating, “their (driver’s) responsibility is the safety of their passengers.”
According to Lolu Akindele, in their bid to also help maintain sanity on the roads, the company has introduced tracking devices in all new Yutong buses which tracks drivers who overspeed. He said the devices are in the 194 buses the company imported last month and will also be in subsequent importations.
The system, which the JA Plant Pool boss assured is very effective, will monitor the speed of the buses and as soon as a driver exceeds the regulatory speed limit, a signal will be sent to a central unit setup to monitor the speed of the drivers. He hinted drivers and companies could be blacklisted if they continuously flout the approved speed limit.
The tracking system is part of the many efforts the company is putting in place to ensure safety of passengers in their buses. Earlier this year, the company partnered the National Drivers Academy to train 400 drivers in that same light.
Lolu Akindele said the company has a strict policy of personally training drivers of prospective buyers before buses are sold to them adding, ultra-modern workshops – in Accra and Kumasi - stock with enough spare parts have been built to provide recommended spare parts for the buses.
JA Plant Pool Ghana Limited, which is a rebirth of Plant Pool Limited some three years ago has been contracted to supply buses for the 2012 African Cup of Nations to be hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The company has supplied buses to several African countries including Seirra Leone and Niger.
