The Bureau of National Investigations is asking for more time to complete investigations into how a substance initially tested to be cocaine later turned into sodium bicarbonate.
President Mills gave the BNI one week to investigate the circumstances leading to the swap but a statement issued today says the body needs more time.
Government has granted the request and has given the investigative body up to Friday to present its report to the President.
The investigations were instituted last December after a substance suspected to be cocaine and handed over to an Accra Circuit Court turned into sodium bicarbonate.
The discovery caused the acquittal of a narcotics suspect. Chief Justice Georgina Wood also instituted an inquiry into the matter.
The committee completed its work last December but details of the report are yet to be made public.
A statement issued by deputy information minister, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa reiterated government’s commitment to unravel the mystery and punish those found culpable.
