The Grand Durbar to celebrate the longest-serving Queen mother of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Obaapanyin Nana Yaa Anamah II, Asuom Hemaa, has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Asuom Presby Park at 11 am.
By popular opinion, the Akyem Asuom Traditional Council, in consultation with His Royal Majesty, Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin and Her Royal Majesty Okyenhemaa, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, has postponed the upcoming 75th Anniversary celebration of Nana Yaa Anamah II.
In a press statement, the chairperson of the Planning Committee, Her Royal Majesty, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, Okyenhemaa said the event which was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, has been postponed because it has come to their notice that several other national and international events will be held on the same day.

“Many prominent and well-meaning Akyem Abuakwa citizens who are eager to be at Asuom for Nana Yaa Anamah’s celebration have drawn our attention to at least three major functions or events that will be held on Saturday, 28th October. (The Radio and Television Personality Awards – RTP Awards will be held on 28th October, the FIFA Under 17 World Cup Finals will be played on 28th Oct and also there is a Cabinet Retreat on the same day).

In consultation with the office of Okyenhene, Okyenhemaa and the Chiefs and people of Asuom, the postponement to Saturday, November 11, 2017 is appropriate to allow the invited guests attend this important ceremony to celebrate the over 100 years old Nana Yaa Anamah II, who has dedicated all her life to serve her subjects for the past 75 years as queen mother of Akyem Asuom.
Meanwhile, last Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Kyebi, the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Nana Amoatia Ofori-Panin II, conferred the highest title of “Okyeman Kanea” on Nana Yaa Anamah II, Asuom Hemaa for her dedicated service to the chiefs and people of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.
In a citation accompanying the title, the Okyenhene said: “In recognition of your commitment to humanity, the development and education of people, your patriotism for your kingdom and your nation Ghana, the Okyenhene Osagyefuo Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin, on behalf of Okyeman and on his own behalf, wish to recognize and commend you on your work and achievements and to confer on you the title of ‘OKYEMAN KANEA’ to Nana Yaa Anamah II, Asuom Hemaa”.
The November 11 Grand Durbar at Akyem Asuom is expected to be graced by H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana and his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo Addo, former President, H.E. Jerry John Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, His Royal Majesty, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, Okyenhene, Her Royal Majesty, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, Okyehemaa and all Queen mothers of Akyem Abuakwa, Osabarima Ofosuhene Apenteng II, Asuomhene, Ministers, Members of Parliament and all chiefs and people of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.
The celebration of the Asuom Queen mother is under the theme: “Celebrating a Traditional Leadership of Excellence, the Role of Women in modern Chieftaincy” and the program seeks to render gratitude to God and celebrate the achievements of Nana Yaa Anamah II for serving her subjects 75 years and still counting.
