Criminologist, Professor Ken Attafuah says the final BNI report on the swapped cocaine scandal must be a conclusive basis for swift prosecution.
Both the Police and the Judiciary have denied responsibility despite an interim BNI report that indicts the police service.
The police, on Thursday, rejected findings of both the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and Chief Justice Committee reports that concluded that the substance tendered in evidence to the circuit court by the police was baking soda and not cocaine.
With both institutions refusing to accept blame, Professor Ken Attafuah says the Attorney General must use the final BNI report to bring closure to the matter and prosecute culprits.
He said the police cannot continue to insist that they are not to blame after the the two independent bodies indicted them.
“In those circumstances, they cannot turn around and say 'we reject the judicial committee’s report, we also reject the BNI report' and the foundation for that rejection is really red herring,“ he insisted.
He however pointed out that: “we may have to wait for a final report of the BNI. If the BNI’s final report asserts the conclusion that they have reached today, it is up to the Attorney-General’s Department to mount a prosecution based on the evidence that comes up in order to test the strength of the evidence contained in the BNI report.”
Meanwhile the police say they are counting on a GHS 50,000 reward to convince key witnesses to come forward with information that will lead to establishing the truth about the alleged swapped cocaine.
