Counsel for the Deputy Head of the Commercial Crimes Unit at the Police CID, DSP Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda, is crying foul over her rearrest by officers of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). DSP Tehoda was re-arrested on Friday after she was granted bail in compliance with an order from the Human Rights Court in Accra. She has been detained since December 29, 2011, over her role in the ‘cocaine-turned-baking soda’ scandal. Two separate inquiries instituted into the case fingered her and another top policeman as responsible for the swap of narcotic exhibit which was kept with the judicial service. Her lawyer Oliver Dzeble, unhappy about the situation, has questioned her continuous detention by the BNI. He told Joy News his client, after being granted bail, was asked to present a report on what happened after she was arrested by BNI officials but added that she was rearrested when she was presenting the said report at the Director General of Police. Lawyer Dzeble, who said his client’s rights were being abused, said he has not been allowed to see DSP Mawuenga since her rearrest.
