Kwabena Nazar, a 42-year-old farmer who allegedly beheaded two other farmers at Anuuso, a farming community near Patrensa in the Asante Akim North district of the Ashanti region, has been remanded in prison custody.
A circuit court at Juaso presided over by S.K. Sarpong Appiah, a High Court judge sitting as an additional circuit court judge, remanded the suspect Wednesday to re-appear on Wednesday, February 29, 2012.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Obeng, prayed the court to remand the suspect into prison custody to enable the police to complete the needed preparations for effective prosecution.
After listening to the plea of the prosecutor, the presiding Judge remanded the suspect.
Nazar allegedly beheaded the first deceased, Kwaku Agyapong, at a cottage on his cocoa farm on the evening of Friday, January 28, 2010.
After killing Kwaku Agyapong, the suspect realized that the second victim, Kwaku Dogbe had seen him committing the crime, hence his decision to kill him in the same fashion.
In his attempt to escape justice, the suspect went into hiding but luck eluded him as the police got wind of it and flushed him out from his hideout.
The suspect allegedly confessed killing the first deceased who had a protracted land dispute with his late father and the second deceased, a farm labourer of the first deceased's sister. The suspect, after killing Agyapong, entered his room and took away his gun for reasons best known to him.
The gun the suspect took away and the cutlass he allegedly used in committing the murder were retrieved from his hideout and would be used as exhibits in court.
