Five survivors of Tuesday’s accident at Santaase near the Opoku Ware Senior High School in Kumasi who were admitted to the "red section" of the the Komfo Anokye Hospital in critical condition remain in serious conditions.
They are however responding to treatment.
They were rushed to the hospital after the driver of a heavy duty vehicle travelling from Cape Coast to Kumasi lost control, veered off the road and ran into them. Four children, including a 10-year-old, were crushed to death.
Two other victims who also sustained serious injuries, according to Luv FM’s Elton John Brobbey, are likely to be discharged on Thursday.
The driver of the vehicle, with registration number AS 5018-12, who bolted after the accident, was found heavily drunk on Wednesday when he was arrested. He is in Police custody.
He said residents have petitioned authorities to construct rumps to reduce speed on the section of the road.
