Zongo communities will start to enjoy the benefits of the much-touted Zongo development fund in 2018, President Akufo-Addo has revealed.
The President has, therefore, tasked the Zongo Development Authority to identify key challenges in the Zongos for the much-needed facelift expected to address deplorable conditions there.
President Akufo-Addo said the fund is geared towards providing Zongo communities with basic amenities which they have been without for decades.
“The deprivation and under development that has characterized the lives of people in the Zongo is not something that a healthy society can tolerate”, he said.

The fund is aimed at bridging the development gap between the Zongos and inner cities and other parts of the country's major cities.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, according to the President, believes that the Zongos deserve a special attention.
Comparing it to the affirmative action, Akufo-Addo said: “we have insisted that the Zongos require special consideration from our development initiatives”.
This was one of the campaign promises flagged by the NPP which eventually catapulted them to power.
The Zongo Development Authority Bill was early on withdrawn from parliament because of some challenges but was reintroduced and passed.
The Bill has since been assented to by the president and is expected to be implemented immediately.
