A 14-year-old primary-six pupil of the Adukro D/A Primary School at Abrome, a suburb of Boamang in the Afigya Sekyere District of the Ashanti Region, has killed himself.
The deceased, Augustine Antwi Boasiako, reportedly died after hanging himself on Monday afternoon at about 2:30p.m, shortly after returning home from school.
Boasiako, according to sources, was discovered by his elder brother, hanging on a crossbar with a sponge tied around his neck in one of the rooms in their family house.
The deceased, who was not dead yet, was said to have told his elder brother to tell their mother that he was travelling and that he should bid her farewell on his behalf.
Upon receiving the message, the mother, Daily Guide learnt, suspected foul play and therefore rushed to the room only to discover her hanging-son almost dead.
Alarmed by the horrible spectacle, the mother raised the alarm which attracted people, who subsequently carried the class-six pupil to the St. Patrick Hospital at Offinso.
Mr. Agyenim Boateng, a teacher in the town, told Daily Guide the boy passed away two hours after arrival at the hospital in spite of the massive efforts the medical personnel at the facility made to save him.
He said the deceased had told some of his classmates earlier in the day that he would kill himself due to the false allegation his mother had levelled against him.
Mr. Boateng noted that the mother of the deceased, on the morning, had come to the school to accuse the deceased of stealing her GH¢10, an allegation the deceased categorically denied.
According to him, the deceased confessed in the presence of some teachers that indeed he had stolen his mother’s money before but he did not have any knowledge about the latest incident.
In spite of that explanation, the teacher indicated, the mother insisted that her son had stolen the money and therefore castigated him in the presence of other pupils.
Mr. Boateng said the deceased remained quiet till school closed only for information to be passed around a few minutes later that the deceased had hanged himself and had been sent to the hospital.
