The Ghana Medical Association is unhappy about what it describes as the erratic nature of the payment of doctors’ salaries following their migration unto the Single Spine Structure.
The Association says most doctors in public hospitals do not receive their pay slips at the end of the month adding that often the amount of money paid into their accounts falls below their expectations.
The complaints are contained in a communiqué released at the end of its second national executive meeting in the Eastern regional capital, Koforidua.
The GMA said some doctors have still not received their salary arrears since February 2012 and called on the Controller and Accountant General to take the necessary measures to address the situation.
The Association condemned the migration of Medical Superintendents and District Directors of Health Services unto the SSSS by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission without reference to the association and the Ghana Medical Service Council as stipulated by the National Labour Commission’s ruling on the issue and threatened to file a petition of contempt against the Fair Wages Commission at the NLC.
The Association also called on government to put in place a competent management and board for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to help solve the many problems facing the hospital to help improve the quality of care at the hospital.
