This year’s West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination has begun across the country.
A total of one hundred and seventy four thousand, three hundred and eighty five students [174,385] are taking part in the examination which begun on Monday April 2 and is expected to last for one month.
Out of the total number students sitting the exams, ninety five thousand, one hundred and seventy [95,170] are males whiles seventy nine thousand, two hundred and fifteen [79,215] are females.
Students from five hundred and ten Senior High Schools are taking part in the examination.
Education Minister, Lee Ocran toured a number of examination centers to acquaint himself with preparations and to motivate the candidates.
His first point of call was the Accra High School where students were writing the oral English paper.
The Minister wished the students well and challenged them to excel.
Accra Girls Senior High School was his next place of call.
Here, he and his entourage interacted with school authorities and examination officials.
The tour ended at the Achimota School where told Journalists he was satisfied with the conducts.
He pledged his Ministry’s commitment to ensure students who pass their exams successfully get admission to the various tertiary institutions.
The Director for Special Education at the Ministry of Education, Rosemond Blay said provision has been made for the hearing and visually impaired candidates to go through the examinations unhindered.
