Three men sustained various degrees of injury when a shopping mall under construction around Kisseiman village at Achimota in Accra collapsed on them.
The victims, whose names were not immediately known by Daily Guide, were working on the building when it collapsed on them.
They were rushed to the Achimota Hospital for treatment while the other traumatized workers wondered what could have caused the accident.
Hassan Namah, Supervisor at Nunoo Construction Ghana Limited, in an interview with Daily Guide explained that the accident occurred around 11am on Monday morning when parts of the building collapsed.
Attributing the cause of the accident to a concrete mixer pump, he said, “There was too much pressure from the pump, as it dumps a lot of mortar into one particular place, resulting in the collapse.”
When asked about the general condition of the workers, the supervisor stated that all the 37 workers, with the exception of victims, were doing well.
According to him, since the construction of the shopping mall began five months ago, there had never been any sign of cracks indicating the impending tragedy.
“We were all terrified in the beginning when the accident happened and because we all work like one big family here, we would see to it that the medical bills and other expenses of the three victims are catered for.
“We are therefore appealing to the media to try to provide the right information, especially when incidents like this happen,” he said.
Police personnel from Airport Police Station were at the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
