The Chaplain for UNMIL GHANBATT Sixteen, Rev. Father Francis Lokko has sent a strong caution to politicians to allow the military to concentrate on their work and maintain peace in the country. Rev. Father Lokko further warned politicians to desist from making comments that could throw the peace being enjoyed in the nation into jeopardy. The Rev. Father Francis Lokko was addressing the 700 soldiers drawn from various units of the Ghana Armed Forces to form GHANBATT Sixteen on Sunday, after their five weeks of pre-operations training at the Bundase Military Training Camp, before they set off for peace-keeping mission in Liberia in July. “Political parties should be careful with their utterances…..nobody should come and disturb us. If you want us to have peace to do our work so that we can deliver effectively in Liberia and bring honour to Ghana, we need peace before, during and after elections”, Father Lokko stressed. He also cautioned the media against siding with political parties so as not to create divisions in the country. Father Lokko who was speaking on the theme; “Ready to deliver” encouraged the officers to remain committed, united and obedient to their leaders in order to protect the image of Ghana on the world stage. They are expected to end their mission in Liberia by January 2013. Commanding Officer for GHANBATT Sixteen Lt. Col. Samuel Gameli commended the officers for being disciplined so far and urged them to maintain their composure as they prepare to embark on their mission to bring peace to Liberians.
