The Forum for Governance and Justice (FGJ) has also condemned comments made by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong on Oman FM, an Accra based radio station last Friday. In a statement issued in Accra, the FGJ described Mr. Agyapong’s comments as reckless and ethnocentric. Apart from condemning the utterance of the MP, FGJ is also calling on the National Peace Council, the Christian Council, and all other faith-based organizations to join them appeal to the National Communication Authority (NCA) to consider revoking licenses of radio stations which incite people to violence. The FGJ’s call on the NCA is coming on the wake of what the group says were the active involvement of some radio stations in inciting and mobilizing people to invade the Ghana Police Headquarters where Mr Agyapong was being questioned. According to the statement, such radio stations pose a danger to peace and stability of the country citing 1994 genocide in Rwanda as an example were a radio station was used in the mobilization and coordination of mass killings. The statement, signed by Dr. Clement A. Apaak, Convenor of the group, said that the freedom of the press must not be used to promote hate speech and violence. It further urged that Ghanaians reject the promotion of violence by any group of persons or media outlets irrespective of their affiliations.
