A Police Constable at Sekondi is being investigated for allegedly raping a married woman at Ketan Estate, near Sekondi.
Constable Ebenezer Osei was said to have committed the act while on guard duty at the Regional Police Commander's bungalow.
The Western Regional Crime Officer, James Kofi Abraham, confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday.
According to the police, the victim, name withheld, reported that at about 10.30 am on April 4, while selling bananas around the Ketan Estate, Constable Osei, called her to buy some of the fruits.
Constable Osei according to the police, asked the woman to send the bananas to the guard room because of the scorching sun.
As the woman entered the room, Constable Osei closed the door and forcibly had sex with her. After the act the victim lodged a complaint with the Sekondi Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, leading to the invitation of the police officer for questioning.
The police issued the woman with a form for medical examination.
Constable Osei, who denied the accusation in his caution statement, is back at post at the bungalow.
