Security operatives at the Aflao border, led by the customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), have intercepted a Nigerian cargo truck with 50 pump action shot guns.
The truck, with registration number XV 163 FST, was intercepted at 8:00p.m on Friday, when it entered the Ghana side of the border with Togo enroute to Accra to load goods for Nigeria.
A source close to the security agencies said the driver's demeanor, when questioned upon entering Ghana, raised suspicions that the truck might be carrying illicit goods.
That, according to the source, compelled the CEPS officials to subject the truck to a thorough check, but nothing was found in its bucket.
Further searches, however, revealed some knots screwed in-between the truck's frame and the container (top flat cart), which was an indication that it had been tampered with. When the knots were removed, they discovered the weapons, all bearing Nigerian registration numbers, in an apartment.
The driver of the truck, who was to help in the investigation process bolted, having outwitted the security operatives that he was going to urinate.
The security operatives later discovered 60,000 dollars, 325,000 Naira and 70,000 CFA on board the truck.
Further investigations are being conducted into the case while a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of the driver.
Meanwhile, the National Security has taken over investigations.
