It's matchday five. Medeama vs Aduana has been postponed because the league champions will be playing in the CAF Confed Cup.
ASHGOLD VS KOTOKO
AshGold’s euphoric winning start to their league season was tripped after drawing 1-1 in their last fixture.
The Miners will, however, look to extend their unbeaten run this weekend when they host Kotoko at the Len Clay Stadium. C.K Akonnor’s side maintain a slight three-point lead atop the table, having amassed 10 points from four games.
Kotoko’s away performances this season have not really delighted their fans. The visitors have drawn and lost their last two games on the road; and now face an AshGold side that have scored twice as many goals as the Porcupine Warriors. At the heart of their troubles, is Kotoko’s inefficiency in front of goal. Despite sitting in fourth place, three goals after match day four does not inspire confidence in Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side. We covered Kotoko’s historical goalscoring problems in this piece, earlier.
AshGold have found the net six times, four of which have come in the second half of games. Four different players have these six, with Amos Addai and Mumuni Shaffiu getting two each. This diversity in scorers means Kotoko will have to be vigilant at all times.
Defensively, both these two sides are among the most defensively disciplined league-wide, having conceded two goals each in four games. AshGold will eye a win, knowing that joint-second placed WAFA and Hearts of Oak engage in tricky away fixtures.
INTER ALLIES VS WAFA
Inter Allies will look to banish the memory of their embarrassing six-goal defeat to Aduana Stars when they resume duties at home this weekend against WAFA. Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s side are seventh, a point below their opponent in second with seven points.
The two attacking teams have endured a mixture of fortunes after matchday four, with WAFA suffering their first defeat away to Elmina Sharks. Allies, on the other hand, have been tight at home this season, picking up all six points in their last two home fixtures against Bechem United and Liberty Professionals, while scoring five goals in the process.
WAFA can also boast of goal scoring prowess as they’ve managed six so far, three of which have come away from home. On the goal-scoring charts, one player in the spotlight this season is Aminu Mohammed. The former national U17 midfielder has been integral to the attacking play of his team, weighing in with three goals and one assist.
Kenichi’s side will need to recover mentally from the damaging result in Dormaa, but their home record suggests they will approach this game with a degree of confidence.
A win for the home side could catapult them into top four position and possibly behind the league leaders while a draw for the visitor would mean they are well within the reach of a top four spot.

BEREKUM CHELSEA VS HEARTS
It’s too early to make definitive statements, but no club is too big to be embroiled in a relegation tussle. Second from the bottom of table, Berekum Chelsea have secured just a point from three games and look to arrest their poor form.
Head coach Svetislav Tanasijevic’s promise of playing attacking football is yet to glitter, as his team seriously needs help in attack.
The Berekum side have scored just a goal so far this season. Their 1-0 away defeat to Wa All Stars means Chelsea will need to chisel out a positive result as teams around them improve on their points total.
Hearts are slowly getting to where they believe they belong. After consecutive victories at the Cape Coast Stadium, coach Henry Wellington’s side should be very confident in making it three in a row when they visit Berekum. Look out for Patrick Razak, the Hearts winger who has scored twice since returning from injury two matches ago.
Their 1-0 win against a plucky Dreams FC team takes their points tally to seven points; they are third. A win could prove to be a shot in the arm for the Phobians to finally kick on to something big this season.
Despite taking in four goals in their first two games, we’ve seen some levels of resilience and reliability in Hearts defense. The Phobians have kept clean sheets in their last two games whiles scoring three in the process.
Hearts will look to put a fragile Berekum Chelsea side to the sword as a win could move level on points with league leaders AshGold and further cement their top four position.

Televised games
StarTimes, official broadcaster of the league, will have four games live, as detailed.
