Some workers of the Komfo Anokye Hospital are demanding accountability over money collected from the suspended development levy.
They have given management two weeks to render accounts or, "face their wrath".
Hospital authorities had imposed a levy of Ten Ghana cedis and Two Ghana cedis on in-patients and out-patients respectively, for minor renovation and staff motivation.
Public uproar and protestation by some hospital staff compelled officials to suspend the levy just after a week, on the orders of the Health Ministry, following investigations into alleged extortion by hospital management, by Nhyira Fm's Ohemeng Tawiah.
But the story, however, does not seem to die, as some opposing doctors and staff want officials to disclose, and possibly refund what was collected.
Spokesperson for the group says though workers are delighted about the withdrawal, they are strongly against management keeping the proceeds.
“They should let the public know the amount that they have received so far. In two weeks, they should come out and tell the public something about it”.
The agitated staff believe the levy was fraudulently collected from poor patients some of whom could not afford medical services rendered them at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
“I don’t want to even hear this. If you want to motivate the staff of your facility, it is not a matter of collecting money from patients to do so’’.
Hospital officials are tight-lipped over the concerns raised by the workers.
Board members and heads of directorates have separately been meeting on recent developments at the hospital.
