A nine-day workshop aimed at sharpening the skills and technical knowledge of members of the Kumasi Central Market Zone One branch of the Ghana Food Crop Processors Association has ended in Kumasi.
The Crop Research Institute in collaboration with the Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI) organized the programme.
The participants were taught food preservation and storage, packaging, labeling, marketing and other food processing techniques.
In a closing address on Wednesday, Mr Kwame Buor, Ashanti Regional Chairman of ASSI, urged food crop processors to comply with manufacturing guidelines to enable them to add value to their products to enhance their marketability on the world market.
He asked the processors to avoid unhealthy practices such as the use of obsolete equipment and working under unhygienic conditions, saying this could affect production.
Mr. Peter Adusei, Vice Chairman of the Kumasi Central Market Zone One branch of food crop processors, advised the participants to work as a team to enable them to have easy access to credit facilities for the expansion of their businesses.
