The National Peace Council has admitted there are challenges with its mandate to secure peace across the country.
According to the Peace Council, their role can be more effective if they have representation at the district and regional levels.
Nevertheless a member of the Council, Reverend Amo Darko is optimistic the Council can play an influential role to ensure peace before, during and after the elections.
He added that calls by conflict resolution advocacy group WANEP’s for effective collaboration among all stakeholders to prevent conflicts is in the right direction.
According to WANEP, out of the 86 cases of violence recorded within the first half of 2012, 20 were politically motivated.
The WANEP report mentioned Ledzokuku, Gushiegu, Odododiodoo, Bawku, Bimbilla, Aflao and Buipe as the areas that experienced the most violent cases.
According to WANEP National Network Coordinator, Justin Bayor a total of 21 chieftaincy related incidents were also recorded.
