Pharmacists in Ashanti are threatening to disrupt health care delivery in the region if they are not moved onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).
They have given the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) up to the end of July, 2012 to migrate them or they will lay down their tools.
Spokesperson for the Ashanti Pharmacists, Kwadwo Osei Bonsu, told Luv News the undue delay in negotiation have left pharmacists in financial difficulties.
Pharmacists in public health facilities embarked on their first industrial action in December 2011 over disparities in salary, following their migration onto the single spine salary structure.
The National Labor Commission directed the FWSC to take the group off the SSSS whiles the impasse is resolved.
Mr. Osei Bonsu however said the negotiations have taken too long, putting members in financial distress.
According to him, the situation is compounded by disparities in the old structure in which some pharmacists are paid as low as Gh₵82.00.
Mr Osei Bonsu acknowledged a strike will disrupt and possibly grind health care delivery to a halt, but said the pharmacists have no option but to proceed, beginning 31st July if negotiations are not completed by then.
