The World Cocoa Foundation has honoured Chief Executive Officer for Ghana Cocoa Board, Anthony Fofie for his immense contribution towards cocoa sustainability in Ghana.
He received the award at the just ended 21st World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) Partnership meeting and Roundtable Sessions held in Washington, DC where he served as one of the main speakers.
Mr. Fofie expressed his appreciation for the honor and pledged to work harder for the advancement of the world cocoa economy.
Speaking earlier on the topic “the Role of Public Private Partnership in Feeding the Future”, he outlined the significant role of Public-Private Partnership in cocoa production and marketing.
According to Mr. Fofie, COCOBOD through Public-Private Partnership as part of its internal cocoa marketing mechanism has collaborated with the World Cocoa Foundation and the Hershey’s Company in USA.
This has led to the introduction of the CocoaLink project in Ghana which enables cocoa farmers to use the mobile telephone platform to send technical information in a two-way direction.
This means farmers are equipped with the needed information on their produce regularly.
Meanwhile, Mr. Fofie has solicited the support of the international partners such Africa Cocoa Initiative (ACI) to help farmers achieve higher and sustainable production in Ghana.
The ACI support is to help build farmer capacity in food production and adoption of good farm management practices for increased yields.
According to him, COCOBOD’s attention is geared towards achieving a sustainable cocoa production through high farm productivity.
This means more land resources will be released for food production. This approach, he said, would ensure the attainment of food security.
