Ms Britney who left the Eremon Senior High Technical School in the Upper West Monday night is among over a dozen of American Peace Corps volunteers who were withdrawn from the region due to security concerns following alleged stabbing to death an armed robber who tried robbing two of the volunteers last Saturday morning.
The Country Director of Peace Corps in Ghana, Mike Koffman told Joy News the volunteers will stay away for as long as is necessary but will never abandon the region entirely.
The students were Eremon SHTS scheduled to have classes with the American Peace Corps volunteer on ICT Wednesday morning which couldn’t come on making them unhappy.
The Headmaster of the school, Felix Sunkari Sibiri was also equally worried about the sudden departure of the volunteers stating that their decision to leave was one which was done in haste.
The Upper West Deputy Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku in an interview with Joy FM’s correspondent Rafiq Salam stated that his outfit is not aware of the so called threat on the life of Peace Corps Volunteers.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Amin Amidu Sulemani further called on the Peace Corps volunteers to rescind their decision and come back to the region positing that what happened was an isolated case.
The absence of these volunteers in the region would not only have a telling effect on education alone but also the countless help they give individuals in building a better live for them, their children, and their communities.
