The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Freda Prempeh has said government is ready to give incentives to the private sector to address the current 1.7 million housing deficit in the country.
According to her, government alone cannot address it, therefore, it will partner the private sector developers to reduce the huge housing deficit in the country.
Madam Prempeh made the comment while inaugurating a 54 luxurious apartment made up of two and three bed rooms by Summerhill Estate at East Legon hills in Accra.
She also bemoaned the high cost of houses noting that prices of the apartments could no longer make them affordable for the average Ghanaian.
As part of measures to address this issue, the Deputy Works and Housing Minister said they will be reviewing Ghana’s current rent law to address the issues surrounding the temporary acquisition of residential facilities in the country.
She said the current rent law has created inconveniences to both the house owners (landlords) and tenants; a situation he said his outfit is working hard to address.
Freda Prempeh stressed government’s commitment to completing all the abandoned projects t address the housing deficit.
For his part, Chief Executive Officer of Nananom Group of Companies, owners of Summer Hill estate, Dr. George Obeng clients can pay their rent on monthly basis.
The motive for that initiative, he noted is to ensure everyone gets a decent and an affordable place to live in Accra.
Mr. Obeng noted that, their vision is to offer the highest quality and customer focused housing while creating value for our clients through competitive prices.
He said Summerhill Estate, an exquisite and stylish newly built estates has personalized first class facilities like swimming pool, Children’s play ground, a standby power plant, WIFI, CCTV cameras, 24/7 security and many others.
Mr. Obeng believes addressing the housing deficit would require some level of support from the government.
