As part of enhancing intra Africa connectivity, Namibia’s national carrier Air Namibia has resumed operations in Ghana.
This is the second time the airline is entering the Ghanaian market after its exit in 2014 due to poor passenger numbers which was as a result of passenger’s inability to obtain visas.
The inaugural flight by Namibia’s National Carrier Air Namibia touched down at the Kotoka International Airport at around 8 pm last Friday.
The flight was welcomed by a delegation of diplomats, directors from the aviation ministry, the Ghana Airports Company Limited and the Ghana civil aviation Authority.
Speaking to JoyBusiness General Manager for Air Namibia, Xavier Masule said the airline's return is based on the fact that there is a huge potential for air transport business in the country.
He said, "the full potential analysis we did shows that the Ghana market can be viable, it is still green and will take 18 to 36 months to develop but all economic factors indicate that there's potential for a viable business proposition."
According to the Namibian high commissioner to Ghana, Charles Josob the service is critical for intra Africa trade. "We want to see African countries trade more among themselves and initiatives like this is what can make it happen. When it's easy to fly among our selves, the trade will improve, tourism will improve and business will improve," he said
On his part, the Managing Director for the Airports Company Limited, John Attafuah pledged support for the Airline’s services in Ghana.
Air Namibia will be doing four flights a week from Accra through Lagos to Namibia.
