Chief executive Officer of the Ghana Gas Company Dr. George Sipa Yankey says challenges with power generation in the country will be fully addressed when the company starts operation by the end of this year.
The country is currently experiencing load shedding due to a shortfall of 300 megawatts of power as a result of a problem that has affected gas supply from the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company to the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Sunon Asogli plant.
Dr. Sipa Yankey tells Joy News, Ghana would derive numerous benefits from the gas project, including the availability of gas to power the Takoradi Thermal Plant at a lower cost, creation of jobs and a reduction in electricity tariffs when it finally comes on stream.
“The difficulty that we are having right now will be minimized because we will be pumping gas to the thermal plant in Takoradi 24 hours a day and we don’t expect to have the difficulty that we are having now,” Dr. Yankey said.
Dr. Yankey said operations of the company will also help industries to produce at fairly lower costs as well as create more employment opportunities for the people.
