A 21-year-old farmer, Michael Amuzu, who stole a goat valued at 150 Ghana Cedis has been sentenced to three years imprisonment in hard labour by a circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region.Amuzu, also called Papa Shee, pleaded guilty to stealing and would additionally pay 100 Ghana Cedis to compensate Madam Akosua Badu, the complainant.Police Chief Inspector Kingsley Antwi told the court presided over by Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong, that both the complainant and the convict are farmers who live at Akim Ofoase in the Akyemansa District and that the complainant had been experiencing rampant theft of goats in her house.He stated that on August 31, 2012, at about 03:00 hours, the complainant was in bed when she heard her goats bleating loudly and therefore came out only find out that the goats had left the compound.Chief Inspector Antwi said without delay, Madam Badu combed the neighbourhood and when she reached Amuzu’s house, she saw the carcass of a goat lying in a kiosk in his house and when questioned about how he got the goat, Amuzu, who could not give any tangible response, took to his heels.He said with the help of some residents, the convict was arrested.
