Fred Baba, a.k.a 'Condom', was Monday put before an Accra Circuit Court charged with conspiracy, robbery and possession of three large parcels substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a narcotic drug.
Baba, a batik dying designer, pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri remanded him into prison custody to reappear on September 24.
Narrating the facts of the case, DSP P. A Morkeh said the complainant, Mr Udugba Benson and his eight siblings reside at Teshie-Nungua, Mango lane in Accra.
Baba also resides at Teshie Zongo in Accra.
DSP Morkeh said on August 28, 2011 at about 0230 hours four masked armed men with pump action gun, a cutter and hammer, broke into the complainant’s house.
According to DSP Morkeh, the armed men ordered the complainant and his siblings to lie down. The complainant, however, refused to obey the orders of the armed men hence he was beaten with the pump action gun and he sustained injuries on his head.
During the act, the complainant identified Baba among them.
The armed men bolted with six HP laptop computers, 12 mobile phones and cash in the sum of GHc3,850 cedis.
The complainant and two of his siblings namely Kelvin Akopmena and Godspower Kume chased the robbers and they managed to apprehend one of them.
On August 27, this year, at about 1650 hours following a tip-off, Baba was arrested at Teshie Zongo as the one of the robbers who robbed the complainant and his siblings.
DSP Morkeh said when Baba led the Police to his house, a school bag containing three large parcels of substances suspected to Indian hemp concealed in a bucket were found.
DSP Morkeh said the substances were being forwarded to Police Forensic Laboratory for examination.
