Paramount Chief of Avatime Traditional Area Osie Adzatekpor VII has announced his resolve to summon parents to a meeting over consistent poor performance of pupils at the Junior High School level.
This Osie Adzatekpor noted, forms one of the many approaches he and his elders were considering in an effort to reverse the poor results pupils from the area record, in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations over the past years.
The Avatime area is made up of Seven communities; Gbadzeme, Biakpa, Dzogbefeme, Fume, Dzokpe, Vane, Amedzofe and Biakpa. Osie Adzatekpor was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the Avatime Traditional Area on Saturday 9th November, 2012, to mark the climax of the celebration of the annual rice festival dubbed “AMUFEST 2012”, at Biakpa in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.
Speaking on the theme: “Accelerating Socio- Economic Growth and Employment Generation through Rice Culture and Eco-tourism,” the Paramount Chief highlighted the significant impact cultivation of brown rice has had on the lives of the people of Avatime. He said apart from the economic benefits, brown rice has unmatched nutritional value and encouraged citizens to sustain the cultivation of the crop for economic growth and to also improve on the living conditions of the people.
He suggested to authorities at the University of Health and Allied Sciences to consider establishing a campus for Sports at Amedzofe, due to the “good altitude here”. The Amedzofe area which is at a height of 762 metres, is currently the highest human habitation, located at the foot of Ghana’s second highest mountain; Mount Gemi. He was convinced if the area is fully explored, it would lead to emergence of other economic activities, particularly, the tourism sector.
Osie Adzatekpor urged agents of political parties in the area not to hold rallies and other activities on same dates and venues, in order to avoid confrontations and safeguard the peace before, during and after the December general elections.
Regional Minister, Henry Ford-Kamel affirmed the readiness of his outfit to offer the essential support to ensure the tourism potentials of the area are developed, as a way of improving the economic conditions of the people
Minister of State at the Office of the President, Stephen Amoanor Kwao who represented President John Mahama, said government was determined to pursuing policies in modernizing agriculture and make it more attractive to the youth to make them generate greater interest in agriculture.
Mr. Amoanor Kwao appealed to the people to vote massively for the NDC and President Mahama, to enable them to continue implementing their good policies for the Avatime area and the country in general.
