The Mortal remains of the late Vice President, Aliu Mahama will be flown to Tamale for burial immediately after the state burial rites here in Accra on Sunday.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama who passed away Friday from a cardiac related condition was initially supposed to be buried at the Asomdwee Park but the family opted for his hometown instead.
The final resting place was confirmed by the family Saturday when President John Mahama, who has suspended his campaign in the Bono Ahafo region, visited the family home of late Vice President.
Nasiru Mahama, son Aliu Mahama announced details of the funeral arrangements.
“The government has agreed to the plan that the family has scheduled for the burial of his Excellency Aliu Mahama. His Excellency will be buried tomorrow [Sunday] at his private residence in Tamale Kalpohin Estate,” he said.
He added that, “His Excellency from the morgue at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital will be driven through the principal streets of Accra and finally arrive at the Independence Square where the burial ceremony will take place.”
According to Nasiru Mahama, “Quranic recitation will be made, special prayers by the family and friends will be said which will be led by the National Chief Imam and the ceremony will start from 8am to 11am.”
Solidarity messages and condolences, from President Mahama, former President John Kufuor, family and several other dignitaries, will also be delivered at the burial ceremony.
